Posting restrictions for policy violations

If your posts stop appearing on Google, your account may have posting restrictions due to policy violations. Mobal cannot remove these restrictions – they are fully controlled by Google. Below is a simple guide on what this means and what you can do.

What are posting restrictions?

Google may restrict access to posting features for a specific Business Profile on Google Search and Maps when it detects multiple or severe violations of its user‑generated content policy.

When the post feature access is restricted:

  • Your post might not go live at all.

  • Newly added posts can be marked “Not approved" or similar.

  • In some cases, content can be deleted entirely if the violation is serious or required by law.

Why can posting restrictions happen?

Restrictions are usually triggered by:

  • Repeated or serious violations of the Maps user‑generated content policy (for example, fake engagement, harmful content, or misleading information).

  • Behaviour that breaks policy, not only individual pieces of content.

  • Previous content removals that already warned about policy issues.

Google may send you notifications about which policy was violated and what content was affected.

Step‑by‑step: How to check and resolve posting restrictions

1. Check your account status

  1. Sign in to your Google Account used for your Business Profile.

  2. Go to your Google Account settings page and look for information about restricted feature access.

  3. Check your email for messages from Google about policy violations or restricted access.

2. Review Google’s content policies

Read the relevant policy pages carefully and compare them to your content and behaviour:

This helps you understand what caused the restriction and how to avoid similar issues in the future.

3. Fix any obvious policy violations

Before appealing:

  • Stop posting any content that might break the rules.

  • Remove or adjust problematic content where possible.

  • Make sure future posts are:

    • Based on real experiences and accurate information.

    • Helpful and relevant to users.

    • Free from harassment, hate, explicit content, or fake engagement.

Note: Simply deleting content may not be enough to lift restrictions by itself.

How to appeal posting / feature restrictions

If you believe the restriction is a mistake, you can often appeal.

4. Use Google’s appeal / troubleshooting flow

Go to Google’s “Report or fix content” help, which also links to appeal options:

From there, follow the relevant path for:

  • Appealing a feature access restriction, or

  • Appealing removed or rejected content.

When appealing:

  • Explain clearly why you think your content and behaviour follow the policies.

  • Provide any supporting information or evidence requested (for example, proof of business, context, etc.).

Google will review your case and let you know if the restriction can be lifted.
