Setting Up NFC with Mobal

Mobal's NFC technology allows businesses to seamlessly connect customers to their online profiles, menus, or promotional content with just a tap. Follow this guide to set up your NFC tag and start using it effectively.

Did your NFC card arrive ready to use?

Most Mobal NFC cards ship pre-programmed. Tap your phone against the card to find out:

  • If your phone opens a page at review.mobal.io/profile-review/..., the card is ready — skip ahead to Step 1: Activate Your NFC Card below.

  • If nothing happens when you tap, the tag is blank and you'll need to program it yourself. Follow Program a blank NFC tag first.


Program a blank NFC tag

If your card didn't arrive pre-programmed, you can write your review link onto it in a few minutes.

  1. Find your review link. Open your Mobal dashboard and copy your review URL. It looks like https://review.mobal.io/profile-review/<profile-id>, where <profile-id> is unique to your business.

  2. Install an NFC writer app. We recommend NFC Tools by wakdev — it's free and works on both iOS and Android.

  3. Write the link to the tag. Open NFC Tools, tap the Write tab, then Add a recordURL/URI. Paste your review link and tap OK.

  4. Hold your phone against the card. Tap Write in NFC Tools and keep the back of your phone flat against the NFC card until you see "Write complete."

  5. Test it. Lock your phone, then tap it against the card. It should open review.mobal.io/profile-review/<your-profile-id>.

Once that works, continue with Step 1: Activate Your NFC Card below to finish setup.


Step 1: Activate Your NFC Card

  1. Receive Your NFC Card – Upon receiving your Mobal NFC card, ensure your device has NFC enabled.

  2. Scan Your NFC Card for the First Time – Hold your phone near the NFC card to initiate the setup process.

  3. Redirection to Review Page – You will be redirected to review.mobal.io/profile-review?placeId=xxx.

  4. Automatic Redirect to Signup – The system will redirect you further to review.mobal.io/dashboard/signup?placeId=xxx.

  5. Sign Up on Mobal – Complete the signup process, and a Mobal profile is created in the background for placeId=xxx.


Step 2: Connect Google and Write a Review

  1. Connect Your Google Account – Follow the prompts to connect your Google account to Mobal.

  2. Redirection to Google Review Page – After connecting Google, you will be redirected to the Google review section.


Step 3: Scan NFC Card Again for Direct Review Access

  1. Scan Your NFC Card a Second Time – Hold your phone near the card again.

  2. Direct Google Redirection – This time, you will be taken directly to the Google review page to leave a review.


Troubleshooting

  • Tag Not Responding?

    • Ensure NFC is enabled on your phone.

    • Try a different NFC-compatible device.

    • Check if the card is damaged.

    • On iPhones older than the XS, background NFC tag reading isn't supported — use the NFC Tools app's Read tab to scan the tag manually.

  • Write Failed or Locked Tag?

    • Some NFC tags ship write-protected. In NFC Tools, tap OtherTag information to confirm the tag is writable.

    • Keep the phone flat against the card and don't move it until the write completes.

    • If the write keeps failing, the tag may be defective — contact support.

  • Redirection Issues?

    • Clear your phone's cache and retry.

    • Ensure you have completed the signup process.
