Overview
This guide points a domain you bought from Domainhotelli at your Mobal website. It takes about 10 minutes, plus some waiting time for the change to take effect.
Before you start
Your Mobal website is published.
You can log in to Domainhotelli.
Part 1 – Get your record from Mobal
Open your website in Mobal. Click Publish, then Connect domain.
Type your domain, for example myrestaurant.fi, and continue.
Mobal shows a table of records. Copy the Value of the www row. It looks like mobal-xxxxxxxx.pages.dev. Keep this tab open — you'll need this value in Part 3.
Part 2 – Log in to the Domainhotelli control panel
Log in to Domainhotelli and open My Account. Find your domain under Services. Click LOGIN TO CONTROL PANEL (in Finnish: KIRJAUDU HALLINTAPANEELIIN).
Part 3 – Add the www record
In the control panel, open the Domains (Domainit) card. Click Managing DNS records (DNS-tietueiden hallinta).
Click Manage (Hallinta) next to your domain.
Click Add record (Tietueen Lisääminen). Fill in the new row:
Name (Nimi): www
TTL: leave it at 3600
Type (Tyyppi): CNAME
Record (Tietue): the value you copied from Mobal in Part 1
Click Save record (Tallenna Tietue).
The Name (Nimi) field can't be left empty, and Domainhotelli only accepts a CNAME record on a name like www — not on the plain domain itself. That's why the plain domain is handled with a redirect in Part 4 instead.
Part 4 – Send the plain domain to www
This step makes myrestaurant.fi work too, not only www.myrestaurant.fi.
Go back to the Domains (Domainit) card and click Controls (Ohjaukset).
Fill in the form:
Type (Tyyppi): Permanent (301) / Pysyvä (301)
Domain dropdown: select your own domain. Do not leave it set to ** Kaikki julkiset domainit ** (all public domains).
Path (/): leave empty
Redirect to (Uudelleenohjaus kohteeseen): https://www. followed by your domain, for example https://www.myrestaurant.fi
www-uudelleenohjaus: choose Do not redirect the www prefix (Älä ohjaa www-etuliitettä)
Wildcard: leave unchecked
Click Add (Lisää).
This part matters: for the www-uudelleenohjaus setting, pick Do not redirect the www prefix (Älä ohjaa www-etuliitettä). The default option redirects both the plain domain and the www version, which sends www.myrestaurant.fi back to itself and breaks the site. Picking Do not redirect the www prefix makes sure only the plain domain is redirected, and www keeps working normally.
Part 5 – Check it
Go back to Mobal and click Verify Connection.
If it still says waiting, give it 1 to 2 hours and check again.
If something does not work
Status stays on waiting: wait up to 2 hours, then click Verify Connection again.
www works but the plain domain does not: check the redirect from Part 4 — make sure it's saved, and that Redirect to (Uudelleenohjaus kohteeseen) starts with https://www.
Nothing works: open the www record again (Part 3) and compare its Record (Tietue) value character by character with the value shown in Mobal.
