How to connect a Domainhotelli domain to your Mobal website

Step-by-step guide to connecting a domain registered with Domainhotelli to your Mobal website.

Written by Mobal Support

Overview

If you registered your domain with Domainhotelli, use this guide to point it at your Mobal website. Domainhotelli has one important limitation: it does not support a CNAME record on the bare (apex/root) domain, so the setup uses a www CNAME plus a redirect for the root domain rather than two DNS records.

Before you start

  • You need to own the domain and have access to your Domainhotelli account.

  • Your Mobal website should already be published.

Step 1: Get your DNS record from Mobal

In the website builder, click Publish in the top-right corner, then click Connect domain. Enter your domain (e.g. www.myrestaurant.com) and continue. Mobal will show a table of DNS records to add, with columns such as Type, Host, and Value.

Copy the CNAME row for www exactly as shown — these values are generated specifically for your site, so don't reuse examples from this article.

Step 2: Open the Zone Editor in Domainhotelli

Log in to Domainhotelli, find your domain, and open its Zone Editor. Click Manage to edit DNS records.

Step 3: Add the www CNAME record

Click Add record and create a CNAME record:

  • Name: www

  • Target: the value Mobal showed you in Step 1

Domainhotelli only allows CNAME records on subdomains (like www) — it does not support a CNAME, ALIAS, or "flattened" CNAME on the bare/apex domain, so don't try to add a second CNAME for @ or the root domain.

Step 4: Redirect the root domain to www

Since the apex domain can't point at Mobal directly, use Domainhotelli's redirect (forwarding) feature so visitors who type the bare domain still reach your site:

  • In Domainhotelli, set up a 301 redirect from the root domain (e.g. myrestaurant.com) to the www version (e.g. www.myrestaurant.com).

See Domainhotelli's own guide: Redirecting a domain to another URL. This redirect is configured through Domainhotelli's forwarding settings, not through a DNS record.

Step 5: Verify the connection

Return to the Mobal domain wizard and click Verify Connection. DNS changes at Domainhotelli typically take about 1–2 hours to propagate, so it's normal if verification doesn't succeed immediately.

Troubleshooting

  • Verification fails right away: Wait 1–2 hours for DNS propagation, then try again.

  • www works but the bare domain doesn't: Double-check the 301 redirect from the root domain to www is saved and active in Domainhotelli.

  • Values don't match: Re-copy the CNAME target directly from the Mobal wizard — don't retype it, and don't reuse values from a previous site.
