How to Reconnect Facebook to Mobal

If Facebook shows "Reauthorization required" or "Not connected", your updates stop reaching your Facebook Page. Here is how to reconnect it.

This article helps you fix a Facebook connection that has stopped working, so your business information reaches your Facebook page again. Use it when Facebook shows a red Reauthorization required label, when you see a notice saying "Your Facebook credentials have expired", or when Facebook looks connected but nothing is updating. The fix takes a couple of minutes per profile.

What "Reauthorization required" means

Mobal's permission to update your Facebook Page has expired. The connection itself is still in place, but the Facebook login behind it is no longer valid, so your updates stop reaching the Page. The connection still shows as Connected, which is why it can look like everything is working.

You will see the red Reauthorization required label next to Facebook on the profile's Connections tab, and opening the connection says "Facebook connection is no longer valid".

Why it happens

The Facebook login behind the connection is no longer valid. Facebook logins are not permanent, so a connection may expire and need renewing from time to time.

It can also break if the person who connected it changes their Facebook password, or if their access to the Page changes.

How to see which profiles are affected

  1. Go to Profiles.

  2. Look at the Connections column. Any profile that needs reconnecting shows a red dot on the grey Facebook icon.

  3. Check the whole list. It is common for several locations to be affected at once.

You may also see a notice reading "Your Facebook credentials have expired" with a Re-authorize Facebook button.

Reconnect the profile

  1. Open a profile that has the red dot on its Facebook icon.

  2. At the top of the profile you will see a red banner: "Facebook profile disconnected, reconnect now!". Click Reconnect.

  3. A panel opens on the right with two options: Reconnect automatically and Reconnect manually. Click Reconnect automatically.

  4. Log in to Facebook with an account that has admin rights to that Page. If you manage more than one location, we recommend Facebook Login for Business. See Choosing the Right Facebook Login Method for Your Mobal Business Profile.

  5. Repeat for every profile that has the red dot.

Reconnect manually

Reconnecting happens in two parts. First Mobal asks Facebook for authorisation, which is the Facebook login. Then the Facebook Page is matched to the profile.

  • Reconnect automatically keeps the Page the profile is already connected to and skips the selection step. You only log in.

  • Reconnect manually shows the Page selection again after you log in, so you can choose which Page the profile connects to.

Use Reconnect manually when the profile should point to a different Facebook Page than before, for example if the wrong Page was connected or the location now has a new one. Otherwise Reconnect automatically is the quicker route.

How to check it worked

Once you have logged in, go back to the profile and check that:

  • The red banner at the top of the profile is gone.

  • On the Profiles list, the red dot on the Facebook icon has disappeared.

  • On the profile's Connections tab, Facebook shows as Connected with no Reauthorization required label.

Your next updates will then sync to Facebook. Syncing is not instant, so see How Profile Data Syncing Works in Mobal for how long changes take to appear.

If Facebook shows as "Not connected" instead

The connection has dropped completely rather than expired. The steps are the same, the button just says Connect.

Still not working?

  • Check that the Facebook account you logged in with has admin rights to that Page.

  • Make sure you reconnected every profile with a red dot, not only the first one.

  • Check that you are logged in to the right Facebook account in your browser. If you manage several, log out of Facebook and try again.

  • If the red dot comes back soon after reconnecting, the Facebook account's access to the Page may have changed. Ask whoever manages the Page to confirm your access.
